If my life had a soundtrack...

... It would have cats.

What the Heck?! I heard a single from this album like 1231287 years ago and this album still isn't out?! Well it is out, but only in Australia, New Buffalo's port of call. I think it's an underhanded jab at America because we have a better exchange rate, but having just traveled the globe, I can say that American dollars are worthless in Europe and England... As such, i think that New Buffalo should cease their good music embargo and release 'Somewhere, Anywhere' now instead of August 28th. Anyways, New Buffalo, awesome music; There were a few tracks on her previous album that i listened to consistently while traveling Europe and i'm sure they are what kept me alive. If you need your socks rocked by some music, i suggest you listen to 'While You're Away.' And if you already know the rad that is New Buffalo, then you should check out the new single by going to her site

My buddy Jake is doing some design work for a Portland band called the Newspapers and he told me to check them out and i have to say i am deeply infatuated with their song 'session one.' They have an EP coming out some time soon and i'm really stoked for it just from hearing 'session one' and the short preview they provide of 'Anonymous.' You should definitely give them a listen.
Check out the Newspapers.

So my biggest argument about the RIAA saying that downloading songs is illegal is that I and many other people download songs to test out a band and see if you like them. If I like the album, I buy it. Call me a criminal, but it just kinda makes more sense than blindingly buying an album yeah? Well anyways, my buddy Daver has solved this problem with a discovery that is not only legit, but even more convenient than dl'ing tracks. Napster has a completely free streaming service where you can listen to entire songs from their library. It loads instantly, it's completely easy, and so far it seems like they have a pretty decent selection. This will be huge for checking out new bands as i'm often stuck just listening to 30 second tracks and trying to decide from there.
Check out some free music!

So I already spoke about Pony Pants, but they really are incredibly rad and you should def def def check them out. Anyways, the reason i'm reposting is that i found this steam of the entire album, so there is no excuse not to check them out. Once you fall in love, buy their album off eMusic or from their myspace.

I got the new Youth Group album the other day and it's pretty fun. 'On a String' is an extremely rad song, the guitars at 36 seconds are absolutely perfect. If nothing else, it's nice to have a legit copy of their superb cover of 'Forever Young'. And best of all they are on eMusic so you can pick the album up for chump change.

Check out Youth Group.

Another cool time lapse video of multiple paintings happening on the same canvas.

So there are a couple albumns that i listen to at least once a day, but i can't fully go to recommend them as they all are a bit hit or miss, but have some extremely attractive redeeming qualities that have me coming back so often.

New Buffalo - Some very rad mirah-esque stuff, but it has so really poor sounding jazz bits and some disgusting sax (altho i've hated all forms of sax ever since kenny G/new wave jazz). Regardless of all that, i love singing along to 'inside the corrections.'

20 Minute Loop - Some incredibly sweet hooks that are very random. Cora May is a rad song altho the slide guitar gets a bit too close to country for me. 'Our william tell' is plain out awesome.

Shapes and Sizes - Some really sweet lounge style singing (maybe similar to paris motel or pink martini altho i haven't listened to either enough to give a good comparison). 'Boy, you shouldn't have' Has the sweetest dissonant opening, but it quickly gets way too country for me.

Saving grace to all these bands? You can get em all on emusic on the cheap so even if they aren't your fav, they're definitely worth a try.

Car Stereo (wars) have released an insanely scrumptious mix of Ratatat and Chamillionare.

Check It Out.

"pony pants got a crush on you, pony pants is in love with you," Those are the lyrics from the song pony train by Pony Pants, and i have to agree with them because i would imagine that someone that loves me wants me to be happy and have fun and this is exactly what pony pants' album 'Til Death Do Us Party' does for me. Think le tigre minus the agenda and you have a good idea of Pony Pants. If you don't want to do that, think about the fact that they are called Pony Pants and how much that rules. Whichever path you choose, you should end at the result of wanting to hear this radness typified in musical form.

Check Out Pony Pants (listen to haircutz for a good example of the album)
